20th November is Transgender Day of Remembrance – a day to look back at Trans people’s struggle for acceptance and particularly to remember those who’ve lost their lives because of the intolerance of others.
Research by Transgender Europe shows that at least 295 trans and gender-diverse people were killed between 1st of October 2015 and 30th of September 2016. The total number may be far higher.
A survey of trans adults in the USA found that 40% had attempted suicide, 61% had experienced physical assault and 64% had been sexually harassed.
Remembering those who have suffered or lost their lives, inspires us to keep working towards a more just and inclusive society.
