We are improving mental health services across Leeds and want to tell you about our plans for the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Service.
From Friday 1st November 2019 the service is known as Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service and will provide psychological therapies for common mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression, which one in four of us will experience in our lives.
Our treatments are available for those aged 17 and over who are registered with a Leeds GP.
What do we offer?
We provide support and psychological therapies for common mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression, which one in four of us will experience in our lives. We offer a range of psychological therapies including workshops, group classes, one-to-one sessions and a range of online support options.
24/7 online support
Our new online self-referral tools and the ability to book into treatments online mean you can now receive support at any time, day and night. You will have the opportunity to access a range of online therapies and self-help resources – making our therapy accessible for all.
Take a look at our range of video courses, each designed to address a specific mental health challenge. The following courses will be available from mid-November:
- Stress and Anxiety
- Panic Attacks
- Managing Stress in Parenthood
- Understanding Self-Esteem
- Postnatal Depression

We offer a range of face to face-to-face classes and workshops that you can book onto directly, without having to complete an assessment. Please find out more here.
During pregnancy and in the first year after birth, women can experience a range of mental health difficulties. We provide a variety of interventions to support women throughout this time, including specialist perinatal support from Women’s Counselling and Therapy Service and Homestart Leeds. Primary Care Mental Health Specialist Practitioners in your local area
Over the past two years, we have been offering improved mental health support in GP surgeries in GP practices. The aim of this is to help people access support where they may have additional mental health needs. Primary Care Mental Health Specialist Practitioners provide emotional support, mental health information and can make a referral to an appropriate service.
This will be rolled out across the city over the next year. It means that people will be supported more quickly and closer to home.
